Speaker Bio

Dr. Austin oversees several hundred data scientists and developers within the Chief Data & AI Office, deploying AI and automation to support AT&T initiatives across the entire business, including network and field operations, supply chain, marketing, fraud and corporate functions. His team developed the Ask AT&T GenAI platform, serving over 100K employees and processing billions of tokens daily to run hundreds of in-production use cases. Their work has garnered top honors in several leading industry GenAI benchmarks and competitions.

 

With 30 years of experience, Dr. Austin has chaired multiple industry technical standards committees, co-authored five books, published more than 20 peer-reviewed technical papers,  holds over 130 patents, teaches GenAI at the university level, and advises on AI for several academic and industry companies. 

 

He earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland (summa cum laude) and his doctorate in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech, where he received the Sigma Xi Thesis Award for his research on optimizing cellular systems. In his free time, he enjoys running, cycling, and boating and is based in Plano, Texas.
