Dr. Amitav Mukherjee, the founder and CEO of Tiami Networks Inc., is pioneering the design and implementation of integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) into current 5G networks. Tiami's ISAC technology transforms 5G networks into radar systems and is being evaluated by mobile network operators and OEMs across North America, Europe, and SE Asia for smart mobility applications such as drone and eVTOL collision avoidance, traffic volume tracking, and automotive sensing.
Amitav received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine in 2012. He also holds a BSEE from the University of Kansas, a MSEE from Wichita State University, and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to founding Tiami, he worked in advanced R&D for Charter Communications, Verizon, Ericsson, Nokia, and Hitachi. Amitav is an inventor on over 170 US patents in the area of cellular networks. He is the author of two books on ISAC and 5G (Integrated Sensing and Communications for Future Access Networks: Principles, Applications, and Standards (2026) and 5G New Radio: Beyond Mobile Broadband (2019)) and 76 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications in wireless communications that have received over 6,300 citations. He received the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Center of Pervasive Communications and Computing at UC Irvine. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
